This one’s a “Keeper”
“My Sister’s Keeper” is yet another in a long line of though provoking Jodi Picoult novels. Based on a 13 year old girl who was “chosen” as an egg to be implanted in her mother’s womb so that she could donate stem cells to her dying sister, this book will challenge your notions about the parent-child relationship.
Regardless of whether you have kids, you will find this book fascinating. While “Plain Truth” continues to be my favorite Picoult book, “My Sister’s Keeper
” is a close second (though look out for the semi-trite ending). “Nineteen Minutes
” is Picoult’s take on a high school shooting. Whatever else you think of Picoult, she chooses tough subjects and she does a tremendous amount of research.
If you like Picoult, check out “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” by Lisa See or “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini. Picoult’s books are all set in America, but See and Hosseini have a similar “non-fiction with great drama” feel to their writing.
Picoult’s books are appropriate for older teens and adults.
