An Amazing “Blessing”
I’ve read a lot of books in my life. Many have made me feel like they could change my life, but few actually did in the long term (largely because I’m lazy, can’t blame the book for that!). “The Blessing” by Gary Smalley and John Trent may finally be one that breaks through and sticks with me.
A woman in my bible study group gave this to me and it was a few weeks before I picked it up. Reading about how our parents “bless” us just didn’t sound like that riveting of a topic. Plus, what if your parents never did “bless” you? What then? My Mom died when I was 15, so I’m not sure that I got the full effect of her blessing to me.
In spite of my own doubts, I finally started to read. What a book! Parents NEED to read this book…today if possible. Whether you’re Christian or not, I think you’ll find this book beneficial. It’s an old book so it’s easy to find at a used book store. It will lead you through 5 elements of ways that your children are blessed by you. You can easily pick up pointers here that you can use immediately in your relationships.
If you have parents (even if they’re deceased), you’ll also find this book riveting. Did you receive all 5 elements of blessing? Are you still longing for something that you never got? How can you find your “blessing”?
Read the book. They have some great ideas that anyone can try. It may just revolutionize your relationships - with your kids, your parents, your spouse and even your friends. Would you rather be a blessing to the ones you love or a burden?
Even older teens may appreciate this book. Be forewarned, they may come back to you and give you ideas for how you could further bless them. And they might be right.
