Add “Elegance” to your list

I don’t know how I got onto this kick of reading books with weird titles, but “The Elegant Gathering of White Snows” is instantly forgiven once you start reading. The book by Kris Radish is a FANTASTIC and fun read about female friendship, depression, lost causes, love, children, just walking away…really everything that women ever talk about.

I’m not going to recommend this book for men. While there may be a few insights worth gaining (such as the character Janice’s exquisite description of the depression that’s been constant in her life), most of it will probably just seem weird. But this is a perfect book to share with a girfriend or group of women (read it before you decide to buy it for your mother-in-law, there is a lot of sex in it).

While it’s a great book and will pull you through a number of raw emotions, there are a few strange things about it.

Radish jumps around between characters so fast you can hardly keep things straight. Several characters are mentioned and seem to have great potential and then just disappear never to be seen or heard from again. The Epilogue, in typical fashion these days, ties up everything into a disgustingly neat little package (except for those characters who just disappeared, they are never mentioned again so just give up on knowing what happened to them). There are occasional “press releases” that I felt were superfluous. If you’re in a hurry, skip reading those and you’ll still enjoy the book!

Big thanks to Laura F for suggesting this book. Anytime you want to just walk away, give me a call and I’m there!
