What Diane's Reading

Worth the “Hour”

“The Switching Hour” by Evon Flesberg should be required reading for anyone with children who’s getting a divorce or has gotten divorced. Grandparents/aunts/uncles/friends will also find great info in here that uses direct quotes from kids to discuss exactly what it feels like to go back and forth between multiple parent homes.

Whether you switch every few days, every other week or just over the summer, there are some keen insights from kids that adults need to think about. It’s too easy to think “like a grown up” and overlook the fundamentals. I’m sure many divorced Moms and Dads won’t want to read about how children are hurting, but there are plenty of practical lessons that can help. It’s also a very short, easy to read book.

If you have children who have a divorce in the family, take the hour or two and read this book. You may also want to read “The Unexpected Legacy of Divorce” which is a great study, but can be emotionally exhausting and draining to read (particularly for parents who feel like they had no choice). “The Switching Hour” would even be appropriate for kids over 12 who want to express their feelings to their parents but aren’t sure how. They could read the book, highlight certain parts and lay it out for their parents to read.
