“Sunday” has charm
So I know that I recently railed against James Patterson. I’m not ready to eat my words yet, but I did enjoy “Sundays at Tiffany’s” by Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet. This is more like “Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas” or “Sam’s Letters to Jennifer” than his Alex Cross series. In other words, there’s little, if any, action or suspense. “Sundays at Tiffany’s” is more of an exploration of the mystical/divine, which reminds me of his books “When the Wind Blows” and “Cradle and All” which were both interesting, but weird. “Sundays” is also weird, but much more of an emotional love story.
Basically, a woman falls in love with the imaginary friend she had in her youth. Though she hasn’t seen him since she turned 9, she remembers him so fondly she goes on to write and produce a Broadway play about him. No one ever understands her or treats her with the respect that he did.
What comes next is preposterous, but will leave the female readers sighing with contentment while any man who happens to pick up this book will feel the testosterone slowly leaking from his body. This is a cute and sweet book, perfectly acceptable for a quick beach read. If you’ve seen the movie “City of Angels”, some of the concepts will seem vaguely familiar, but it’s hard to have a completely original idea anymore.
Personally, I liked “Sam’s Letters to Jennifer” better.
