Not just “Funny”, it’s Hilarious
I really enjoyed “Funny in Farsi” by Firoozeh Dumas. Growing up in Iran before moving to California, Firoozeh has a unique view of America and Americans – from our ignorance of world geography to the ridiculousness of our game shows.
Each chapter is a short story about an experience she had, from getting lost at Disneyland to the tragic mispronunicaitions of her name. Plus she throws in lots of great details about her family, growing up in Iran and America and observations of what happened to Iranians living in America during the hostage crisis.
Not every chapter is laugh out loud funny, in fact, that’s the exception more than the rule. But there’s a lot to smile about and plenty to feel charmed by.
If you like “Funny in Farsi”, you may also like David Sedaris.

Thank you, Biblioholic, for sharing your enthusiasm with others.
I do have a new book out, LAUGHING WITHOUT AN ACCENT. Hope you get around to reading that one too.
And I do love David Sedaris!
Best,
Firoozeh Dumas
