Grossest Book Ever?
I liked “Hot Zone” by Richard Preston. It is NOT a book that you want to take along on your honeymoon (and yes, I did find that out the hard way). It’s also not a book that you should read if you have a weak stomach.Of course, you shouldn’t really expect a book about Ebola to be uplifting, funny or appetizing. But this is one nauseating ride through a very real, and very terrifying, outbreak in Reston, Virginia (an outbreak among monkeys that is).
If you’ve ever wondered how they track down the origins of a disease or just how terrifying some biological structures are in nature, this book will fascinate you even while turning your stomach. If you’re a hypochondriac, you should not read this book. No doctor will take you seriously if you report that you think you have Ebola.
I tried Preston’s work of fiction called “Cobra Event” and I have to say that “Hot Zone”
is my clear favorite.
If you like the idea of fiction about scary illnesses, try a book by Robin Cook or by Michael Crichton. Both authors have a medical background and write fiction that is very suspenseful.
