“Filthy” is Funny

September 19th, 2008 by Biblioholic

If nothing else, you’ve got to love the title “How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls” by Zoey Dean. Is it a great piece of literature? No. Is it even a great piece of “chick lit”? Not really. But it’s easy to read and amusing and would be a good book to take on a beach vacation. The premise is more complicated than it needs to be. Megan has lost her job as a magazine writer. She gets offered a job by a rich grandmother – get my idiotic, spoiled granddaughters into Dartmouth and I’ll pay off all of your student loans. Megan figures that even if she can’t get the young women (think Brittany and Paris) into college that she can still write a heck of an expose and sell it to the highest bidding tabloid.

Of course it follows the romantic comedy formula so you’ll see all the twists and turns that you’d expect. While there are few surprises, it is a funny book. Not “The Boy Next Door” laugh out loud funny, but funny nonetheless.
