“House” is comfortable

September 28th, 2008 by Biblioholic

It might seem strange to describe a book as comfortable, but “The House on Fortune Street” by Margo Livesey is just that. It’s not terribly funny, sometimes tragically sad, but sort of like wrapping yourself in a worn blanket on a chilly day.The story just fits together. There are four very different sections, don’t let that throw you. If you keep reading, it will all come together.  It is disturbing in some places but I would urge you to press through and keep going. You’ll be glad that you did.

You might also like “An Elegant Gathering of White Snows”, “Saving Fish from Drowning”, ”Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” or my favorite “In Search of Eden”.
