“Sway” how you think

October 27th, 2008 by Biblioholic

If you think you understand how the human mind works,  you’d better not pick up “Sway” by  Ori and Ram Brafman . “Sway” is a book similar to “The Tipping Point” and “Freakonomics” – all great works of non-fiction that will truly challenge your assumptions.

Sway” is sub-titled “The Irresistible Pull of Irrational Behavior” and that’s accurate. They really do take the time to look at famous bad decisions (from the Vietnam War to preventable plane crashes) to find out what it is that keeps us going down a path that we know is likely to turn out poorly. This is one of those books that will have you reading sections aloud to your mate or friends with a loud, “Can you believe THIS?”

Unfortunately, the authors don’t really address how to stop the cycle of irrational thought. Still, it’s a great commentary on how our ridulous thoughts sometime get the better of us.
