Don’t Go “Banana”s
I hate to criticize a book that I didn’t finish, but I feel an obligation to warn others. I tried to read “Banana: The Fate of the Fruit That Changed the World” by Dan Koeppel, but I just couldn’t finish it. Why?I was bored. I like bananas okay. I thought the first story that suggested the fruit in the Garden of Eden was more likely to be a banana than an apple. And then Koeppel went into more detail, and then more, about banana plants, banana diseases and migration patterns of bananas.
Is this worthy of a book?
Not to me.
But if you love fruit or have an interest in history, check it out. There’s probably something in there for you. If you have an interest in INTERESTING history, I recommend “Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea” (takes a few chapters to get into it), “The Cruelest Miles
” or “Into Thin Air
“. These cover search for buried treasure, diptheria outbreak in 1925 and expedition to the top of Everest – great non-fiction that’s fun to read.
