What Diane's Reading

Mother’s Day Gifts

April 23rd, 2009 by Diane

It’s that time of year again, when you begin to stress about what to get your mother or mother-in-law or grandmother or daughter for Mother’s Day. I believe there is a book for every woman. Here are a few recommendations that might help.

Got a new Mom or one who loves to improve? Pick up “Fantastic Families” for her, which includes specific tips for building strong families.

Wish You Well” by David Baldacci (read my review) would be great for women who love kids, had a wonderful Grandmother, or are a special Grandma.

If your Mom is into thrillers, try a Dean Koontz  book like “Lightning” or “Dark Rivers of the Heart“. This requires some high tolerance for blood/guts described in detail. For less squeamish Moms, try a Sue Grafton mystery.

Want to make Mom laugh? Janet Evanovich is the answer! Start with “One for the Money” (my review) and go from there. Most Mom’s will also get a laugh from “Bridget Jones’s Diary” (in my opinion, it’s much funnier than the movie). For a non-fiction laugh, check out “Funny in Farsi“, also a GREAT choice for Mom’s who’ve immigrated to America (more on “Funny”).

Got a Mom who loves cheesy romance novels? “A Knight in Shining Armor” by Jude Deveraux may be just her style (read my review).

Mom’s will laugh and cry over “Forever, Erma” by Erma Bombeck. She will appeal more to Mom’s over 40 (more details here).

Most Moms/Grandmas would enjoy ”Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen (read my review). Or try the popular new novel “The Reader” which is short, poingnant, and a little sexy.

The Book Thief” (find out more) is a great purchase for an intellectual Mom.
