Dad’s Day Gift Ideas
Father’s Day is a GREAT opportunity to give the Dad in your life a good book to enjoy. Here are some that will peak his interest or make him smile.Any father will love ”The Pillars of the Earth” by Ken Follet (my review). This book has something for any Dad- intrigue, politics, swordplay and sex.
Already gone the “The Pillars of the Earth” route? Hook Dad on George RR Martin’s series “A Game of Thrones
“, at the top of my best books ever list. I haven’t met anyone who didn’t like this book!
If you have a history buff in the family, he’s sure to love “The River of Doubt” about Teddy Roosevelt’s journey into an uncharted tributary of the Amazon River. Click here to read my review.
If there’s a new Dad (or Dad-to-be) in your family, you can’t go wrong with “The World According to Mr. Rogers“, which offers great advice and inspiration.
More creative Dads will smile reading Jim Henson’s scribbles and thoughts about the Muppets in “It’s Not Easy Being Green“.
Scientist fathers will like a Michael Crichton book such as “Timeline” or “Airframe
” (my reviews).
Dads who enjoy a good mystery read should try Michael Connelly’s “Blood Work” or you can get him the Clint Eastwood movie of the same name. James Patterson’s “Along Came a Spider
” begins a great mystery series.
And let’s not forget David Baldacci and Nelson DeMille
, both great suspense/political thriller writers.
Christian fathers and teenage/adult sons are sure to enjoy “Wild at Heart” by John Eldredge.
While some Papas may enjoy “Watchmen“, you may want to consider this before getting it for them.
I think a lot of Dads would be pleasantly surprised to read “Water for Elephants” (my review) or “The Reader
“.
And if you know a father who is suffering some turmoil or heartache, you might consider “The Shack” for them (read my review).
Sci-fi loving Dad’s may already have a copy of “The Lord of the Rings“, but they’d probably always like a nice keepsake copy to read again and again.
Get Dad crying with “The Kite Runner“. It’s emotionally tough but a really wonderful read!
Can you think of other great books for Dads?
