Born Trilogy

June 5th, 2009 by Diane

Not to be confused with the Bourne Trilogy (which I also like), this trilogy by Nora Roberts is vintage sappy romance – and PERFECT for the beach. We start with “Born in Fire” about Maggie, a glass blowing magician (think Chihuly) in Ireland who’s lost her father and never been close to her mother. She’s the stereotypical artiste, moody, unable to be on time, irresponsible, etc. Naturally she falls for her polar opposite, an artistocratic businessman. Or does he fall for her first?

Born in Ice” is about Maggie’s sister, Brianna, who is as cool-headed as her sister is hot. The romance is slower to come in this book, but when it does, it’s delightful.

And rounding out the trilogy is “Born in Shame” about a girl born in America having no idea of her Irish roots. Will she seek out her father’s family? Will she find love in Ireland? Of the three books, this one takes the weirdest turn, going a bit Druid/spiritual.

They’re fun books, definitely worth a beach read, none requiring any deep thought.
