What Diane's Reading

Another Picoult Hit

July 6th, 2009 by Diane

I really enjoy Jodi Picoult’s writing style and research. “Plain Truth” is probably my all time favorite, but I also enjoyed “Keeping Faith“.

With “My Sister’s Keeper” coming out of Hollywood, her books are about to become even more popular.

“Keeping Faith” is about a little girl who suddenly exhibits what seems to be religious powers and her parents scramble to figure out what to make of it (neither of her parents are religious). Is she trying to get attention? Has she had a psychotic breakdown? Could she actually be producing miracles?

As with most of Picoult’s books, I found it to be interesting to read and bittersweet at the end. The questions that this book raises are good ones. In this day of scientific proof and of openly expressing doubts, how do we know when miracles do occur? How do we explain them? Is there adequate proof to believe in anything?

Picoult often has a courtroom drama featuring prominently in the story and this is no exception. Fans of John Grisham will probably enjoy Picoult as well.
