“Real World”? Not Really
I like Carole Matthews as an author. “Welcome To The Real World” wasn’t terribly realistic, but then again, it wasn’t meant to be. Fern is a down on her luck wannabe singer who magically lands a job as an assistant to a world famous opera singer. Naturally there is an attraction, but will she ever tell him of her dreams? If you’re gagging already, this is not the book for you. Yes, it follows a formula. Yes, there’s a bit too much “American Idol”. Yes, our heroine has a sick nephew that she’s trying to take care of (awwww). And yes, the hero has a tortured past that is almost too over the top.
But hey, it’s chick lit, what did you expect?
Does it work for the beach? Sure! Will it make you smile at least once? Probably. Will it remind you of Bridget Jones? At least once or twice (in a good way).
So give it a whirl, if you’re chick lit inclined. It’s only a few hours of your life and you needed the distraction anyway.
