“Food” for Thought
If you eat fast food, you should read “Fast Food Nation” by Eric Schlosser and at least become a smart consumer. I don’t want to hear the excuses, “If I read it, I won’t want to eat that stuff anymore, and I can’t live with McDonaldland cookies!” You know that fast food isn’t good for you, butdid you know just how bad it could be? Do you have any idea of the biggest profit margin items? Do you know where the meat is coming from and who’s inspecting it? Think you don’t want to know? Ignorance is NOT bliss!
Every American should read this book, but I’m not going to recommend it for anyone younger than high school age (wouldn’t want to give younger kids nightmares). You will learn more about potatoes and slaughterhouses than you ever thought possible (and it’s actually more interesting than reading “The Jungle”).
It does start off a little slow, so give Schlosser the benefit of the doubt and keep reading until you get 40 or 50 pages in.
And if you liked this, you’ll definitely like the documentary “Super Size Me“.
